Help with travel costs

You can claim travel expenses for inpatient stays. To do so, you need to fill in a Young Patients Family Fund (YPFF) form. Click here to download this form, collect one from your ward or visit the Family Support Corridor (ground floor across the Outpatients Department) and ask at ECHC’s Hub or Kindred.

Once you have filled in the form, it needs to be signed by your Charge Nurse, then taken to the Cashiers Desk located at the Royal Infirmary.

Driving and parking

There is on-site parking available for patients, families and visitors in Car Park 1B (the first left as you drive towards the hospital). Parking is free of charge. There are 112 designated blue badge spaces across the site. 

Parking close to the hospital entrance: A small number of parking spaces are available close to the entrance at RHCYP (car parks 1A and 1D) for families with specific clinical needs. These include: 

  • Wheelchair users or those with severe mobility issues 
  • Severe visual impairments 
  • Children who rely on medical equipment 
  • Cases where the clinical team recommends closer access 

Spaces are limited and need to be booked in advance. Call 0131 537 3333 (option 5) at least 24 hours before your visit. Be sure to have your child’s appointment details and your car registration ready. 

Getting to the hospital by bus

Lots of buses serve the hospital site from across the city and beyond. Popular routes include: 

  • Lothian Buses 7, 8, 21, 24, 33, 38, 48, 49 all stop at or near the hospital 
  • Check live bus times on the Lothian Bus app or website 

There’s also a handy bus hub right outside the main entrance.

Getting to the hospital by taxi

Need to get here fast? Taxis can drop off right at the hospital entrance.

For pick up, taxis will collect you from the nearby taxi rank, located on the approach to the Hospital Square, adjacent to the Anne Rowling Centre. There is a phone located within the RHCYP atrium (across from the ECHC shop) where you can call for a taxi pick up.
