Celebrating fundraising success

Pinocchio's Nursery

"We realise what a difference it makes to create a homely environment"

- Lewissa, Pinocchio's Nursery

Edinburgh Children's Hospital Charity have been supported by Pinocchio's Nurseries around Edinburgh since 2010, in which time they have raised an astonishing £40,000. What is the secret to their fundraising success?

(Please note that before 1 May 2017, Edinburgh Children's Hospital Charity were known as The Sick Kids Friends Foundation)

Lewissa and Stratos Koulis who run Pinocchio's Nurseries told us a bit about their ethos and why they were interested in supporting our charity "We opened our first nursery 20 years ago with the passion and belief that children come first and that nursery should be like a second home. That’s why ECHC's motto ‘child first, patient second’ resonates with us - we realise what a difference it makes to create a homely environment, especially for children in hospital and their families, so they can get some normality back when they are going through a tough time."

"We have heard and witnessed so many stories that have touched our hearts over the years. Recently we had a child that was rushed to hospital with meningitis and blood poisoning - the excellent treatment and support the family received during this scary time made us realise how worthwhile our fundraising has been. Fortunately, the child was back at nursery one month later"

Lewissa

Lewissa and Stratos currently own and run five Pinocchio’s Nurseries across Edinburgh. Long term supporters of the Foundation, over the years they have made and sold recipe books, held teddy-bears' picnics and run summer fairs but their most successful fundraiser yet has been their Easter egg decorating competition. Children decorate Easter egg images and collect sponsorship from friends and family - a prize is awarded to the 'best dressed' egg from each classroom.  It's simple, easy, fun and the eggs look wonderful on display.
