Family Support

Having a child in hospital can be a stressful and emotional time for everyone. Your donations help the hospital’s Family Support Team to ensure the whole family is cared for during their visit or stay.

Caring for Families

When a child is rushed to hospital, their parents or carers and siblings often arrive with just the clothes they have on. Going home to collect a change of clothes is not always possible – children are brought to the hospital from all over Scotland – but many face at least an overnight stay, if not longer.

The Family Support Team is always grateful to receive donations of brand new clothes (unworn and with tags on for infection control) for adults, young people and children; such as t-shirts, leggings, comfy trousers, hoodies, basic underwear, socks and pyjamas.

Items for emergency toiletry packs – deodorant, razors, toothpaste and toothbrushes and travel size shampoos and conditioners are always appreciated.

Families who have had to come in in an emergency will often only bring things for the child and forget about themselves or will have nothing at all. Having a change of clothes, pyjamas and a toiletry care pack can make a big difference to those in this situation, helping them to feel clean and comfortable during an incredibly difficult time.
